Laboratory For Energy and the Environment

The Laboratory For Energy and the Environment at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology brings together collaborating faculty and staff in 13 departments to address the complex interrelationships between energy and the environment, and other global environmental challenges.

The Laboratory For Energy and the Environment fosters collaboration among industry, government, academia, non-governmental organizations, and the public to address not only the complex interrelationships between energy and the environment, but also the technological, economic and social aspects of sustainable energy development and use.

LFEE's mission is to make significant innovative contributions to energy and environmental sustainability, including the improvement of technologies, structures, and policies that will lead to cleaner, more effective, efficient, and equitable products and processes.

LFEE is home to more than a dozen centers, groups and programs and serves as a focal point for energy and environmental activities throughout MIT. In addition, LFEE brings together collaborating faculty and staff in 13 departments to carry out multidisciplinary research that leads to holistic assessment of problems and solution options in meeting demand for energy and resource production and use. There is a strong focus on engineering and science based activities in key technology, modeling and monitoring arenas.
